Cannot delete custom recipients on Exchange 2003 server...

Very interesting situation here... We are in the progress of migrating
from NT4/Exchange 5.5 to 2003/Exchange 2003. We are a very large
organization with about seventy-two sites and over a hundred servers.

At any rate we have some sites converted over to exchange 2003 fully.
These sites have removed their exchange 5.5 servers completely.

The issue is this... A new active directory account was created. The
person that created the account filled in the e-mail address field on
the account. After they entered this information, several hours later
a custom recipient started showing up on several different exchange
sites. The GAL then had several custom attributes stating the same
thing.

I then went to Active Directory and noticed that it had created mail
attributes in the ad account. I removed them and deleted the e-mail
address. I think logged into to every site that still had a 5.5 server
in the site and deleted the custom recipient. The problem is that
there are 5 custom recipients left in 5 different sites that lack a 5.5
server. I can see the custom recipients in 5.5 Exchange Administrator
but I cannot see them in AD. If I log into the exchange 2003 server
with exchange 5.5 administrator (utilizing the SRS) it tells me "The
contents of the container cannot be seen because the recalculation of
the directory hierarchy is not yet complete. Try again in a few
minutes." It doesn't matter how long you wait, it doesn't
change.

Can anyone tell me how to get rid of these custom recipients from the
Global Address List?

Thanks so much.
