Hello Peter,
Thanks for taking up this thread and for the link you provided in your message. As this is a fairly new configuration I don't yet have Antivirus software installed on the two servers (although this will be done once I have everything up and running properly). I do however have AVG Free Edition Antivirus software running on the XP box and although I do agree with the sentiment of what you're saying, I'm not at this stage convinced that the Antivirus software is causing this problem, simply because when I send a test email from my Hotmail account to my Windows account configured through Active Directory and Exchange, the email is not even arriving at the server (at least to the best of my knowledge it isn't), a few moments after sending the email from Hotmail I receive a Delivery Failed Report back to my Hotmail account and the contents don't really give much in the way of why it failed - it simply says: This is an automatically generated Delivery Status Notification, Delivery to the following recipients failed ...

I am pretty sure it has something to do with the configuration of either Exchange or DNS, although I may be wrong of course

Wayne

Are you using an AV program to scan your emails. If so disable the email scanning.
In some instances depending on your AV, you will need to uninstall it and then
re-install it without the email integration(scanning)

Applies to: Windows Server 2003 and Exchange Server 2003

Hi guys,
I've set up two servers running Windows Server 2003, the first one with DC, DNS and
DHCP and the second server with Exchange 2003. The first server I am fairly
comfortable with the configuration of the Domain Controller, DNS and DHCP but my
knowledge with Exchange is quite limited and I wonder if someone may be able to help
with a problem I'm currently experiencing.

The main server is configured with Internet access through a single static IP
address but the second server running Exchange is configured with an internal
non-routable IP address and I think this may be where the problem lies but I'm
unsure how to configure it to work with the same external IP address as the DC
server.

Using a workstation running XP with SP3 connected to this network, I have configured
Outlook to connect to the Exchange server and I can send email both internally and
externally, but when I try to send a test email from my Hotmail or Yahoo accounts,
the delivery fails.

I've pretty much set up Exchange with all the default settings, the only changes
I've made is to my user account settings which I use to log onto the XP box, which
I've configured to use the Exchange server, and also I've added one MX record in DNS
which points to the static external IP internet address, and still I can only send
out email but not receive emails.

Is there anything glaringly obvious that I have missed, I'll be the first to admit
my knowledge of Exchange is fairly limited so any help, pointers or suggestions
would be very gratefully appreciated.

Many thanks in advance
Wayne
