What version of Exchange? Did you prepare the domain? Are the two "domains" in separate routing groups?

i have set up exchange for the parent domain and am able to send and receive
internal and external emails. i installed exchange on the child domain,
howerver while we can receive internal email we are not able to receive or
send to external emails. What possible configuration am i missing?
