Re: Error after creating new Storage group in Exchnage 2007

Hi Robbin,
We're having this exact same error, but on a sole exchange 2007 server
- the issue was when we created an additional storage group on the
server and moved the mailboxes to that storage group. We then had
issues with the additional storage group and moved the mailboxes BACK
to the original storage group.
Since then we've been getting the errors mentioned by Adam above, for
two mailboxes, and the errors are referencing the new storage group
(the one that we moved the mailboxes to, and then moved them out of).
Any ideas on this one? It's driving me bananas and filling up the
application logs constantly. We've rebooted the server, and like I
said above, there's no other exchange servers in the organisation to
be interfering with it.
Cheers
Steve

Hello Adam,
Thank you for your post. My name is Robbin Meng, and it is my pleasure to
work with you on this issue!
Please allow me to confirm that my understandings are correct. As I
understand it, the issue is:
Recently, you created a second storage group on your Exchange 2007 SP1
server, then move some users' mailbox to the new storage group and the
mailbox is working fine. However, there is event error 1144 logged which
still pointing to the original mailbox path.
If I have misunderstood your concerns please feel free to let me know.
Before we go further, I would like to confirm that:
1. Can you logon that email account normally now with the new storage group
enabled?
2. Does this Event error always occur when you are logging on your email
account?
This issue typically occurs under the following conditions:
o Multiple domain controllers exist in the environment.
o The domain controller that was first updated during the mailbox move is
different from the domain controller that the Exchange Server uses during
the user's logon attempt.
o The user tries to gain access to the mailbox before Active Directory
replicates the information to the domain controller.
In a move mailbox scenario, Active Directory replication might take some
time to update a user's home MDB attribute across all of the domain
controllers.
Some users have been logging on to their moved mailboxes before AD
replication was competed, thus populating the MBI cache with "bad"
attributes. So even after replication was done, Exchange was using "bad"
attributes from the cache. Even if you used force replication right after
mailbox move, still replication takes some time to complete - and during
that time, some random users were logging on to their moved mailboxes,
which resulted in the above-mentioned error in the Event Application
Exchange log.
Based on current situation, I suggest we perform the following steps:
1. Check if the AD replication is correct. You may use AD replication tool
or check Event log for related information.
2. Run Exchange BPA tool to scan and check the health of current mailbox
store.
After that, please monitor for some days to see whether the issue reoccurs.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to let me
know.
Thank you for your time and cooperation!
Best regards,
Robbin Meng(MSFT)
