Thanks for all the help, Mark. Okay, I'll bite, is the better solution third-party software, a true cluster, or a built-in trick I just don't know about?
Thanks!

If you want. Remember that you don't want to get too out of step in
I figure I'll just suspend replication on the First and Second storage
groups during this procedure and when the test is done resume it. Sound
about right?
case you need to activate the SCR for real.
The moral I'm gleaning from this is that once you fail over to a standby
server and you're ready to revert back to your primary server, you will
either have to reverse the SCR back to the primary server and then recover
to it or backup the storage groups via Windows Backup and then go through a
recovery on the primary and reseed to the secondary?
I use
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb738150(EXCHG.80).aspx as
the reference to go to and come back from SCR (although, to be fair,
we recommend to our customers never to use SCR because we have a far
better solution)
You're not over-complicating this as it is very complex. Sure, you can
Is that it or am I making this too complicated? When you first turn on SCR
and need to seed the server, can you do a backup of the storage groups on
the primary via Windows Backup and then restore it to the secondary and use
that as a seed? Or is the only way to quickly seed the secondary server to
bring to the LAN at headquarters and do the initial seeding with them both
on the same backbone?
take all of the guff out of the documentation and boil it down to a
set of commandlets but it's still a time consuming exercise. And yes,
if you are going to do a DR test you should do it at LAN speeds so
that you can get back from DR to the original service quickly (either
that or do a one-way move and leave it on the DR kit and nominate the
original kit as the DR stuff.
