That's right - sending outbound mail doesn't have anything to do with internal MX records. All you need is:
- Outbound SMTP connectivity
- Name resolution capability for internet domains (DNS)
- In case of Exchange 2007, a Send Connector for address space * (configured to send without requiring authentication)

- Are you using the same namespace for lab recipients/environment as your external/production environment? If yes, you will need to share SMTP namespaces.
1) I set it up to use DNS
2) I see the mail queued in the SMTP Connector (I have tried using both the Connector and Virtual SMTP neither worked) but no mail is delivered via the internet, only within its own exchange environment.
3) They can get out to the internet.
4) Nope different Namespace.
For some reason the Exchange server cannot route email to the internet. I placed an MX record on its internal DNS but not on our Edge DNS (because i have one already for our production environment)
Can i use multiple MX records on our Edge DNS without messing up our production mail?
I answered my own question with regard to the MX record issue i just create a new zone and add it that way. However my understanding of Exchange is that I don't need any of that info to send email, just to receive. And that is my issue is sending email.
