I started writing and then saw you created the user account in the domain
THEN the mailbox. Perhaps you could try creating the user & mailbox through
the Exchange Management Console (creating the new user there creates & links
BOTH the AD user and Mailbox), that's typically how you create new users
once you implement Exchange 2007. I'm sure you can do it your way but I
suspect you might need to link the mailbox properly afterwards. If that
doesn't help:
Well I guess I would try and find out a more specific error than what
Outlook is giving you.
I assume the event viewer on both the Exchange server and the client give no
indications. You could perhaps try packet-sniffing the network to see if
the Exchange server is refusing to answer or if the client is not seeing the
server's acknowledgement (could take you to a personal firewall issue).
Perhaps it's a permissions issue on the workstation itself and you can't
write to a key file someplace.

On my primary Vista workstation, I've been using Outlook 2007. I created a
new user on the domain and created the user a mailbox. I used OWA to login
to the new mail account. I then logged off my user account and logged in
to this Vista workstation as the new user. Outlook 2007 wouldn't connect.
I then jumped over to my XP laptop, logged in as the new user and tried
the same thing with Outlook 2003. Everything works fine. I've tried this
with new users and existing users. Outlook 2007 won't work with either.
Strange stuff. Outlook 2007 is failing at something Outlook 2003 is not.
Also, the automated wizard will jump in a configure everything, but it
fails as well. I'm checking the box to manually configure things at this
point. The automated wizard comes back with the same error messages
reported in my original post. Any more ideas?

Hrm, well the automated wizard jumps in and does the connection even from
the applet.
Manual works too.
Are these new 2007 clients newly-built machines on your network? Are
they recent additions to AD?
By any chance have you logged in an existing, working user to that 2007
client and see if there's any issues with the mailbox itself? I'm
puzzled too.

Well, instead of doing it from the Mail control panel applet, since it
was a new install of Outlook, I let the wizard find my settings. Indeed
it did and found my Exchange 2007 machine without difficulty.
I also upgraded Exchange to 2007 (from 2000) and my pre-Outlook 2007
clients have no problems. I'll try another client later and see if I
get any different results by using the Mail control panel applet.

I've done some more troubleshooting, and have found some weird things
going on. Perhaps someone out there can shoot me some ideas. From
control panel >> mail, when I add the exchange account using Outlook
2003, it works fine. Outlook 2007 is reporting the errors in the
parent post, and won't connect. Now, on an Outlook 2007 client, if I
put one of the domain controllers for the server name, it will
resolve my name, put the exchange 2007 server in for the server name,
and let me continue. Outlook 2007 will not connect after that point
though. Has anyone seen any weirdness with Outlook 2003 clients able
to connect, while 2007 clients unable to do so?

I recently installed a new Exchange 2007 server, and migrated all the
user mailboxes from the existing 2003 server over. I followed
Microsoft's procedure for the migration, and for taking the original
server offline. Now that I've taken the old server offline, new
Outlook 2007 clients can't connect. (Old clients are working just
fine.) For new clients, from Control Panel >> Mail when I add the
server and mailbox name, I get the error:
"Outlook cannot log on. Verify you are connected to the network and
you are using the proper server and mailbox name. The connection to
Microsoft Exchange is unavailable. Outlook must be online or
connected to complete this action."
and then
"The name cannot be resolved. The action cannot be completed."
Interestingly, Outlook 2003 clients work just fine! OWA also seems
to be working just fine. I've checked all the Microsoft recommended
tasks in Q297801 using ADSI edit, and Ldp.exe, and everything looks
completely good in my directory. DNS and AD are also operating
flawlessly.
What could Outlook 2007 be failing at where Outlook 2003 is working
just fine?! Thanks experts!
