Re: Exchange 2007 get-mailboxstatistics hangs

Once again, rebooting helped.

I have found 3-4 users with item counts in their mailboxes exceeding 5000.
I know that performance starts to suffer at that point.

My logical disk counter avg. disk/sec write is frequently bouncing as high
as 0.5. I'm struggling to figure out how to correct this problem. Any
advice for this or the previous issue being unable to delete a message would
be great.

I'm of the mind that this "stuck" message in the queue is the cause of the
server latency at this time.

I tried to remove the message from the queue and it has been stuck in
PendingRemove status ever since.

This message's Message Source Name is FromLocal. I know that it will
remain in PendingRemove status until whatever is causing delivery to fail
to time-out, but the problem is, it isn't timing out.

This happened once before and the fix was actually rebooting the Exchange
server. Is there not a way to just simply restart the queue (suspending
it didn't work) which might do the trick?

Issuing any of these commands in the shell just hangs it up:

Get-MailboxStatistics | fl
get-mailboxstatistics -identity jsmith
get-mailboxstatistics

I have let it go for about 5 minutes and there's no response. I would
like to just have a look at the size of mailboxes and the items in each,
but perhaps I have a bigger problem going on?

I'm running a performance mmc while I do the command but it makes no
impact on the performance. I'm monitoring:

MSExchangeIS: RPC Averaged Latency (been running high in the 15-60
range)
RPC Ops / Sec (a bit spikey)
RPC Requests (low >5)
Physical disk: Avg Disk sec/read & write both under .002
Current Disk Queue length 0
Processor Processor time 23%

I have also noticed that there's a message to a distribution group in the
queue which has been active for some time. The group is all internal
addresses (company-wide grp).

Things are very fishy and I'm not sure how to proceed. This installation
is about 1 month old.
