Setup SMTP to accept remote clients

I need some help here. . I have 3 users that have laptops with
Verizon Air cards. When I setup the laptops to use our Exchange
Server's SMTP and they try to send email - I get the error that our
server does not allow Relaying. I do not want to turn on relaying!

Is there a way to setup the Exchanges Server with a secure login to
the smtp so that we can send email from anywhere our mobile users may
be?

Thanks

Ron
