Re: Migrating to Exchange 2007 - Anonymous Hub Transport - Relayin

THanks for the quick reply Mark,

I am 99% sure I did the same thing before, but will try again.

I am currently installed EX07, and will do nothing more than than the
default receive connector to "anonymous".

I will post what happens here. Thanks again.

Hello group,

I am getting ready to install Exchange 2007 for a customer using the swing
migration.

I have successfully done this in our office....it doesn't seem to be a big
deal. I do have one problem, though.

The Hub Transport will be directly on the internet (well, NAT'd). We are
currently not using Front End/Back End servers. INstead we've got just one.

I realize that they suggest using the Edge Transport services, although
having two dedicated Exchange servers is overkill for this business. They
need to have a single exchange.

Anyways, back to the problem. I have enabled the receive connector on the
Hub Transport to allow anonymous connections. We are now able to send and
receive emails.

The problem is that we are now getting send mail queues backed up..which
makes me assume we are an open relay. I have gone to relay test sites which
suggest it is an open relay.

Does anyone know how to lock this down?

I know what the problem is, if it were exchange 2003. On the SMTP screen we
not allow anyone to relay through this smtp...even authenticated users. This
way only the exchange server can relay (not any other computers). If another
computer needed to relay through it we would add the ip address directly to
the exceptions.

Does this make sense? Please help me out guys!

Another idea. I"m not sure that I would like this as much, but it is a
possibility. With a single license could we install edge transport services
on the PDC for incoming email?

Please help! Thanks!

Eric

Allowing anonymous submission on the HT won't allow relaying so unless
you've done something else you don't have a worry on that score. It
doesn't answer your question though but at least you have something to
go on.
On 2007 you should be able the queue manager (it's a window spawned
off when you open it) and that should tell you what the status is.
Have a look and let us know.
