Hi,
You will need only one ADC instance. The installation should create 2
connection agreements to each5.5server (one mailbox and one public folder
agreement).

Hi,
If I understand your setup correctly you have installed 2 windows
forests.
In this setup theexchange2003servers will never be able to see each
other
and if you share SMTP domain space you will need to configure this. And
you
will need to use a tool to synchronize gal and free/busy information.
If possible you should recreate the setup and have only one forest - this
way you will have one common gal and avoid some of the problems you are
seeing.

I am in the process of testing in a lab environment. I have myEurope
office singleExchange5.5server running in VMWare. Their PDC is
also theExchangeserver. This is what I have done so far.
1. In placeupgradeto AD onHQNT domain.
2. Established trusts betweenHQAD andEuropesite's NT domain.
3. Installed newEuropeAD domain.
4. Created trusts betweenHQAD <->EuropeAD, EuropeAD <->Europe
NT Domain.
5. Ran ADMT onEuropeAD to bring accounts, SSID, and modified
EuropeExchange mailbox owner to newEuropeAD.
6. InstalledExchange2003into existing5.5Site atHQ. Followed
install steps onExchangecd.
7. Installed ADC inHQ.
8. Created new mailboxes onHQExchange2003and moved mailboxes from
HQ5.5 toHQExchange2003.
9. Used pfmigrate to setup replicas of public folders onHQExchange
2003.
10. Mail is flowing between all three servers. Mailboxes reside on
all three servers.
11. InstalledExchange2003ontoEuropeAD. Created new user. Mail
flows fromEuropeExchange2003server toHQ2003 server but notHQ
5.5server.
12. 5.5Admin in both sites can see the other2003servers but the
System Manager inHQcan't see theEurope2003 server and theEurope
2003can't see theHQ2003 server.
Questions
1. Do I need the ADC in both HQandEurope? My 1st ADC inHQ
pointed to each5.5server in each site.
2. Should I completelyupgrademyHQsite to2003, keep in mixed
mode, and thenupgrademy5.5site?
3. Why can't my2003servers see each other but route mail to one
another?
Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
James
Hi,
That is correct I have two separate forests. I will recreate and
have my Europe site join my existing forest. Sorry if this is a silly
question...will I only need 1 instances of the ADC? I have read the
ADC documentation numerous times but can't come to a definitive
conclusion.
Thank you for the info and the quick response.

Hi,
I was able to get the HQ site upgraded to 2003 and moved all
mailboxes except one. I have successfully replicated public folders
onto the 2003 server and mail is flowing between the HQ 2003 box the
HQ5.5 box and the Europe 5.5 box. I am having difficulties getting
the Europe 2003 server introduced into the Europe site. The install
has failed twice at the point of installing the SRS service. I have
confirmed that the necessary permissions exist for the account
installing Europe 2003 and that network connectivity and name
resolution is good between Europe 5.5, Europe 2003, and HQ 2003. I
keep getting error 0xC1030B11 and when check the log I get 0xc1037b0c
(31500): An error occurred while attempting to initialize the
Directory Replication Interface. I tried retry but received the same
error. My only option was to cancel. The install of Exchange 2003
completed but the SRS didn't complete correctly. The SRS service will
start but the Europe 2003 server only shows up in the HQ 2003 System
Manager. The HQ 5.5 server and Europe 5.5 server don't see the new
server. This has happened twice and I am stuck as to how and correct
it.
My questions:
- Do you have any suggestions as to how and get the Europe 2003
server introduced properly?
- Would it be better to consolidate from two sites into one while
still maintaining a separate Europe Domain in the HQ forest? What
issues or benefits would this provide or what complications could come
from this type of setup?
I look forward to hearing from you and appreciate all the help you
have provided thus far.
Regards,
Jamie
