Creatring send connectors on an Hub server

I installed Exchange 2007 in a lab environment on a single server configured
with the following roles:

a.. Hub Transport server
b.. Client Access server
c.. Mailbox server
I noticed that no send connector was created: have I to create one manually?
What further step have I to perform in order to allow sending mail messages
to generic recipients in Internet?

Can I imagine an implementation in the real word based on a single Exchange
2007 server with no Edge server to send/receive messages to/from Internet?

Regards
