Guys,
That's great, I'll be VMwareing it soon, under Vmware Infrastructure 3,
reason is I have a Vmware server with 32GB RAM not doing much and my current
exchange 2003 box, on a DL380 with 2 GB ram (30 users)
seems pointless in buying a new x64 bot server when I can deidcate an 8GB
virtual server in my vmware os,
btw, were also a Gold MS partner, so should be ok on the support side if we
need it,
I'm guessing MS havent said yes to the virtualisation yet because they cant
virtualise it using Virtual PC/Server ???????
Will let you know what problems I have..... if any......

Rob,I was running multiple Exchange 2007 32 bit servers from January 2006
I think one reason for the impression is that Exchange 2007 32bit can
be difficult to install on Virtual Server. For example, I've got two
partially functioning Exchange 2007 virtual machine installs. Failure
of one or more services to start seems to be a common symptom.
At the moment I am not clear on the mechanism and fixes for these
problems.
through to January 2007 when I switched to vmware to run the 64 bit
version of Exchange in virtuals.
Not once, ever, did I have a problem like the one you describe.
Perhaps I was lucky. The servers do like to chew resources and the
Management Console suffered timeouts whilst loading but that's as
simple as using the Management Console installed on a different box to
fix. It'll connect well enough to the busy virtuals, just not start
too well.
Hi Mark,
Don't be modest. You were probably more skilled as well. :)
I didn't have problems with the 32 bit beta of Exchange 2007 on
Virtual Server 2005 either. The RTM install seems more picky.
After quite a bit of ferreting over the weekend I think I've tracked
down the problem with one install. I used a 16 character machine name
on that install. The install can't complete successfully, at least
that's my interpretation.
