Thanks Leif. Everytime I tried I had that exact problem.
Does this mean that anyone could send mail to mail.mydomain.com from
their email program and have our server relay it for them...?
Sorry if that sounds like a stupid question but it's becoming a worry
for me.

Hi,.
If the exchange server receives SMTP mails directly from the internet
you can't stop non authenticated SMTP access. (Well you can but then
you won't receive any mails at all).

Thanks Leif maybe I should rephrase the question....the >>> smtp virtual server but then Exchange stopped recieving mail
How can I stop non authenticated smtp access to the sever. I want
clients accessing over pop to authenticate when they send email no
annonymous access. Does theat make better sense.
Thanks again

Hi,
You configure this on the client (by default the SMTP virtuel
server is configured to allow realy from authenticated users so
no need to configure anything on the server)

Hi all
I am having a little trouble setting my E2K3 to get the user
provides a username & password to send mail when they are
connecting to the server over pop/smtp connection when they are
away from the building, internally we use direct exchange
connection.
I have tried to setup what I thought was the correct settings in
from >>> the internet and local clients get a fail message when
attempting to >>> connect with outlook "Exchange server is not
available"
Could someone please point me in the direction to set this up.
Thanks in advance.
