Hi all,It's fine. You really want to implement some sort of RAID though.
I would like to migrate from exchange 5.5 to exchange 2003. Right now
5.5 is running on a MS Win2K SP3 box, 800Mhz Xeon, w/1GB RAM. No Raid
is installed, and have a 5 GB priv.mdb file. About 40 mailboxes and
only 3 get about a gig in size, the rest are fairly small.
We have another box, Dual Xeon 2.8GHz, Gig-0-Ram, with two Hitachi 74GB
SCSI drives that I would like to put Exchange 2003 on. It's a Dell PE
1750 with Win 2003 Standard, SP1.
Here are some questions I need answered:
#1. Will this hardware suffice for exchange 2003? Mostly concerned
about the storage. Will two 74GB's non raid be OK? (using Acronis to
backup)
#2. If this will work Ok, what would be the best way to set this up(OS
and TLs on first, exchange data on second drive)?
That'll do. Although for 40 users, ocnider adding a 3rd drive and setting
up a TAID5 array. Partition 15-20GB for OS and the rest for TL and DB.
Tha will give you redundancy and with only 40 users, IOPS should not be a
concern.
#3. The Dual Xeon 2003 is not running AD. I have not installed it yet,
because I am not sure of the impact on our other 2K DC Svrs, running AD
2k. If I run DC promo on this box (which I will have to to do the
migration to it), what it the affect of the other DC,s that have Win
2K?
DON'T DO IT. Leave that server as a member server. you need to run
foerest and domain prep prior to installing Exchange. Installing Exchange
on a DC is NOT recommended.
Thanks :)
Chris
