Thats what I thought, until I tried it and everything worked ok, I didn't
have any problems with the public folder permissions. I got error 9552, but
my permissions remained intact, when I tested in lab environment. So I still
don't know if the effects are the same for Exchange 2003 in a domain in
server 2003 interim mode. But what I found was that the migration worked ok
in a mixed mode domain, no permissions were lost.

Hi,.
The first article you mention says that this applies exchange2003. A lot of
other articles which doesn't mention 2003 applies to this as well unless
they say that the problem is solved in a newer version.

Is Exchange 2003 still affected by the public folder and permissions
replication issue when you have a DL listed on the ACL of a public folder,
when migrating to Exchange 2003 from Exchange 5.5?
I setup a test lab with an NT4 domain controller, I added another domain
controller as an NT4 BDC. I then installed another NT4 BDC and promoted
it
to a PDC. I then took the original PDC offline, and upgraded the new BDC
to
a PDC. I upgraded the new PDC to server 2003 and ran the AD install
Wizard.
I install AD and DNS. I then installed 3 Exchange 5.5 servers on 3 new
NT4
member servers. Next I installed a new Server 2003 machine, ran all the
updates and patches. I joined it to the domain as a member server. I
then
installed Exchange 2003 with the ADC and SRS. I installed Exchange into
my
existing Exchange 5.5 site.
Now, on Exchange 5.5, from a user mailbox on an Exchange 5.5 server, I
created a public folder. I created a distribution list in Exchange 5.5
and
added this DL on the client permissiosn on the public folder I had just
created. I added some test user accounts to the DL and then forced a
replication of the ADC connection agreements. In AD users and computers,
I
saw it replicate the DL as a universal distribution group. (The 2003 AD
domain is in 2003 interim mode).
According to the articles above, this is where I should have problems. I
setup a user mailbox on the 2003 Exchange server, using a user account
that
is a member of the DL on the public folder. From a user account on the
exchange 2003 server, I was able to open the public folder, create and
view
items, and everything worked normally. According to the articles above,
the
ADC should have imported the Exchange 5.5 DLs into AD as universal
distribution groups (which is did!). But when a user accesses the public
folder Exchange was supposed to convert the universal distribution group
to a
universal security group (which is not available in my domain, since I'm
in
mixed mode - server 2003 interim mode). However, what I found is that
Exchange did NOT convert the group. In fact, the migration worked
perfectly,
all users permissions were preserved, and the DL still shows up in AD as a
universal distribution group, so it was definately NOT converted to a
security group.
Based on these test results, does that mean that Exchange 2003 in a domain
in 2003 interim mode, is not affected by these public folder/permissions
problems? Did this change in Exchange 2003? Can anyone offer any input
on
this? This is affecting a large migration project for my company, and I
need
to get this worked out asap. So my question is, does that article still
apply to exchange 2003? Or does exchange 2003 has a built in workaround
for
that problem? If so, this would mean that I won't have any issues with
public folder permissions afterall? Can anyone comment on this? Does the
fact that the domain is in 2003 interim mode make any difference? I
really
thought this test would fail, but it worked perfectly. I can only hope
that
my production migration to exchange 2003 goes as smoothly.
Thanks
