RPC over HTTP question

I apologize if this question has been asked and answered numerous times before, but for all of my searching, I am unable to come up with anything.
I am trying to configure a RPC over HTTP in a Front-End/Back-End environment. The FE server sits in the DMZ, is running Windows 2003 (not SP1), Exchange 2003 SP1, and is a member server. The backend is Windows 2003 SP1 with Exchange 2003 SP1. Right now, the firewall is wide open to allow all communication between the FE and the BE and the DCs.
Using a laptop with a profile configured while on the local LAN, when attempting to connect, I can see the attempts in the IIS log on the FE, with a code of 200 being replied, but the client never connects. Anyone have any ideas or additional troubleshooting steps? My last rpcping test appeared successful. The FE does have a valid SSL cert and OWA (which is on the same server) runs fine.
Thanks in advance.
Aaron .
