Exchange "REQUIRES" WINS???

Tech Tip: Click here to run a free scan for Windows Errors and optimize PC performance

O.K., what's the straight dope??? I see at:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/exchange/guides/E2k3HighAvGuide/6115570d-9f61-47a0-bd73-419a89380fe3.mspx
that Microsoft says that Exchange REQUIRES WINS, and yet they like to
pimp to us that unless you're running legacy apps, blah, blah, blah
that A.D. and DNS are all that's needed. I hate WINS like the clap. I'm
getting ready to deploy a new EX2003 server. Do I really need WINS???
