Sorry about the cross post, I did not quite now where does it fit.
Thank you for taking the time to read this post and a bigger thanks if you
post a reply, as I am in great need of help.

The configuration of the Active Directory is simple, single tree, single
domain, 2003, native.
There are 3 servers, ALFA, BETA, GAMMA

ALFA and BETA are domain controllers, GAMMA is member server.
ALFA is running Exchange 2003 in native mode. This server has been upgraded
from 5.5 through 2000 to 2003
There is a single mailstore and a single public folder store.

ALFA is due for retirement and the Exchange has to be moved on GAMMA; I am
trying to stick to the MS recommended procedure.
Although GAMMA is not a Domain Controller, it will be promoted. It can be
promoted now but I prefer to see the Exchange moved first.

I have installed Exchange 2003 on GAMMA without problems.

But it seems something is profoundly wrong with the Public Folders/Offline
Address book replication

I have moved a mailbox onto the new server (GAMMA) without problems but the
owner of the mailbox gets sync errors related to the offline address book.

I have tried to create a replica of the Public Folders on the new server
(GAMMA) by adding a replica server on the proprieties of the Public Folders
on the old server ALPHA but I do not get anything on the new server.

There are additional issues.

-- Since the installation of the new exchange server on GAMMA on the old
server ALPHA I get now every 5 minute an error event in the application log:
______
Event Type: Warning

Event Category: Replication Errors
Event ID: 3092
Date: 31/01/2005

-- The Site Replication Services had issues previously and it is kept
disabled (as service).
if I enable it the following event occurs in the application log and it does
not show as an entry under tools:
_________________
Event Type: Warning
Event Source: MSExchangeSRS
Event Category: Internal Processing
Event ID: 1400
Date: 30/01/2005
Time: 7:48:18 PM
User: N/A
Computer: ALPHA
Description:
The Microsoft Exchange Site Replication Service could not initialize its
Exchange database (EDB) and returned error 1. The Site Replication Service
will wait in a semi-running state so the database can be restored from
backup and the SRS can mount it.

-- In the Exchange System Manager if I expand server ALPHA, Public Folders
and click on Replication Status an Exchange System Manager error box pops up
with the following text:

An unexpected error has occured.
MAPI or an unspeciified service provider.
ID no: 8004010f-0000-00000000

ID no: c105010f
Exchange System Directory

I am at a lose what to do next.

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

I could do a back-up/restore on the new GAMMA hardware but for other reasons
I would prefer to do it this way
