Unable to check FE server option

We currently have a BE Exch 2000 server. I just setup a new server with Exch
2000, sp3 and ran the additional patch to sp3. I see the new BE server right
below the FE server using the system manager. I am unable to check the box on
the BE exch server to set it as a front-end server. The option isn't even
there... It is there for the BE server. Any ideas as to why the option isn't
there?
