There is a note in the Microsoft Support article
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=833401 indicating you can run RPC over HTTP
without SSL (see note below)

Note While RPC over HTTP does not require SSL, you must modify the registry
to enable RPC over HTTP if you do not want to use SSL. We recommend that you
enable and require SSL for your RPC over HTTP communications.

Another article gives step-by-step instructions for the registry modification:
To allow non-SSL encrypted traffic with RPC over HTTP
1. On the RPC Proxy server, start Registry Editor (regedit).
2. In the console tree, navigate to the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Rpc\RpcProxy
3. In the details pane, right-click and add a new DWORD Value named
AllowAnonymous, and then right-click it and choose Modify.
4. In Edit DWORD Value, in the Value data box, enter 1.
The RPC proxy server is now configured to allow requests to be forwarded
without the requirement to first establish an SSL-encrypted session. The
setting to enforce authenticated requests is still controlled in the
Authentication and access control settings.

Has anybody gotten this to work? I have followed all steps carefully but I
still can't connect Outlook via http.

Thanks!
Mike
