Hi Ed,

I'll give that a go.

Many thanks

If you move all mailboxes from mailbox database 1 to new database 2,
dismount 1, delete 1's EDB file, then mount 1 again, you'll have a nice
clean tiny database. This is generally preferable nowadays to running the
defragmentation utility EDBUTIL /D.

Hi Lee,

Thanks for your reply. I think the db woukld benefit from an offline
defrag,
but there is not enough space on the exchange drive to do this. I'll give
the
other options a go. Would an option be to create another db on the data
partition and move some mailboxes over?

Thanks

Bob

Hi,

Our Exchange 2007 server has 3 partitions at the moment, the OS, one
for
Exchange and the third is for data. exchange is fast outgrowing its
partition
and the plan is to move the database onto the third (data) partition.
We
are
currently moving data from the third partition to accomodate this move.
Is
there any way that we can free up some space in Exchange to give us a
little
leeway to make the move.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Have you tried:
1. Do a full backup to purge the log files
2. Turn off deleted item retention for a while
3. Ask your users to clean up their mailboxes
4. Try an offline defrag, in case you have some white space in the DB.

Lee.
