What I do is set the start page for our users to have links for our website,
email and intranet all on one page, as well as a google search link. You'd
probably be better off doing something like this. It is done through group
policies and works very well. You'll need to load the inetres.adm template
I believe.
I'd also setup a DNS entry for your mailserver to whatever alias you wish.
So you could have mail.domain.com.
