Exchange + POP3 = which is the right login/password ?! HELP !

hey ho,

running SmallBusinessServer 2003.

now my problem:
if i add an user to my domain like:
first name: Max
name: Egg
login: MaxHead
alias: MaxHead
password: hello123

POP3 works fine for this user!

BUT if i add an user like:

first name: Max
name: Egg
login: MHE
alias: Max.Head
password: hello123

i can't get the mails by pop3 because i can't connect (uknown user/password)
i tried 'Max.Head', 'MHE', 'Max Head' and so on (even with the domain-name)
i can't authenticate !!!

PLEASE HELP !!!
