New Exchange install questions

Hello,
My company is currently looking into bringing our email in-house. Currently
we use a hosted service on the internet. Our internal domain is company.com
and our public hosted web/email domain is companyinc.com.
I need to re-install our DC and change our internal domain name for other
reasons. I'm thinking about changing the internal domain name to
companyinc.com and then changing the MX record in the public DNS to point to
the new internal exchange server's public ip address.
Does this seem like appropriate steps to ensure exchange will function
properly?
Thanks
.
