I have built an Exchange Server 2003 environment with 2
back end servers and one front end server. One back end
server is for mailbox storange, while the other is for
public folder storage.

We are currently migrating from Exchange 5.5. I have
replicated about half of the public folders (or about 64
Gb) to the new server. Although there are no mailboxes
on this server, the mailbox store has grown to about 30
Gb. There is only one storage group on this server.

What is causing this? Is it OK to remove the mailbox
store from this server?
