Design of Exchange over a VPN

    I have a client that has a forest with two child domains. The two domains communicate with each other over a VPN. We have Exchange Server 2003 (standard edition) installed on a server in one domain, but users in the other domain will use the server as well (the organization will include both domains). To lessen the amount of Exchange network traffic over the VPN is it a good idea to setup a virtual server in the domain where an Exchange server does NOT exist? If not, does anyone have any suggestions?
