Telnet on Port 25 to Ex2007 from Win2003 server

Hi All
I have a Ex2007sp1 server that I can connect to via telnet on port 25.
From and XP box I can send a message without any issues
When i connect I get
220 mail.xxxxxx.net Microsoft ESMTP MAIL Service ready at Fri, 10 Oct 2008
08:4
3:15 -0400
However when I try on a windows 2003 server I am having issues. It can make
a connection, however this is the reply I get when connecting
220********************************************************
When I do a helo command I get
500 5.3.3 Unrecognized command
I have added a new connecector for this connection and only allowed from the
IP address of the server in question and my own and gave anonymous
permissions for this connector
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
