You need to log on with DOMAIN\ACCOUNT\ALIAS if the mailbox alias is not the
same as the domain account name.

Solved: I changed the username to the format
DOMAIN\username\mailboxalias and it works. If there's a better fix
please
let me know.
Thanks,

More Info:
Interestingly if I setup my Outgoing SMTP Server to require
authentication,
using the same settings as my incoming mail server, the SMTP
authentication
succeeds, and the test message is accepted / delivered.
Thanks again,
Dan

I have an SBS 2003 Server I am setting up POP3 Port 110 Access for
users.
Some users can authenticate some can't. It's possible that the one's
that
can't were originally setup with different user names. Newly created
users
can get in fine.
If I telnet to Port 110, I can login as any new user I create, the
administrator, but not an older existing user. That older user can log
into
the server, and I can log in as them to OWA.
I've tried to Change user Permissions, add the user to Mobile User and
Remote Web Workplace groups, change users password, start and stop POP3
service. Hide from Exchange Address Lists is turned off at the user
level.
POP3 is Enabled, using protocol defaults, as is everything else on the
Exchange Features Tab of the User.
It would seem that deleting the user and recreating them would work,
but
that of course would break other stuff, most of which I'm unaware of
<smile>.
Any ideas on what I should try? Thanks for the thoughts!
