Re: connection to microsoft exchange is unavailable

I can ping without the hosts file. I only added it because others on
here said it helped them. The funny thing is that if I let Outlook
2007 try and do the automatic configure it finds the server and puts
the right name in the server textbox. Just after that it dies. I've
also tried with and without cached mode.

When I say many people, it meant with a search, not a regular basis.
I think it's kind of like when you buy a new car. All of a sudden
everybody's got that car. Thanks.

When I try an add my Exchange server to Outlook 2007 I get (under any
user on this particular machine).

The connection to Microsoft Exchange is unavailable. Outlook must be
online or
connected to complete this action.

I have edited the hosts file

Don't use a hosts file- you need to be using DNS for AD to work right (and
Exchange relies on AD).

I can ping my server fine

Once you've removed your custom hosts files entries and rebooted, can you
ping SERVERNAME and have it reply with the FQDN of SERVERNAME.domainname.com
?

Many many others with 2003 and 2007 Outlook work fine
I have deleted the .ost files in local settings

Try setting up a profile manually and don't enable cached mode.

I have deleted the profile in the Control Panel with the Mail Icon,
created a separt POP3 and then went back to add an Exchange box. I
have deleted the profile several times and tried to create a new
profile several times
I have searched
I have seen Microsoft Knowledge Base article concerning ZeroConfig
and
AutoDiscover
Also tried to rebuild tcpip with netsh

Nothing helps.

I have noticed many people have had the same problem.

I haven't, but that doesn't mean much. What do you see in your event logs?

I am on XP SP2, Office 2007, Exchange 2003
