dreaded 85010014 error code

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

any help gratefully recieved on this one. i have read dozens of
previous posts rather than adding my own straight away but no joy so
far.

setup:
Front End server
Exchange standard 2003 SP2
3rd party SSL certificate and SSL enabled
The FE server is not routing SMTP email.

Back End server
Exchange standard 2003 SP2
SSL not enabled

I've followed suggestions in posts and also the Microsoft KBs 817379,
883380, 215383 but no joy.
when initially trialling i used direct connection to BE server and
KB817379. this worked perfectly so the SSL certificate is valid and
working. after trial ended i undid the config steps on here so back to
where i started.

after putting in the front end server and setting up OWA I can no
longer get the device to sync. OWA works perfectly.
the firewall shows the mobile device http request is going from the FE
to the BE server and is allowed through but after the device tries to
synchronise folders i am just left with 85010014.
I have checked and double checked the authentication and SSL options
on the various virtual directories but can crack it.

help please!!!
