Re: Exchange/Internet Connection problems

The general approach to something like this would be to isolate the layer
that is causing the issue, ie: is it network, application, session, etc.

Does this box have multiple NIC's?

When it "loses the connection" can you ping your external gateway? Internal
boxes? Can you traceroute?

Anything in the event logs?

How is DNS configured? When this happens can you ping internal by name? By
IP?
External?

If you split off exchange from the web adn VPN services, does it still
happen?

etc....

Hi All

I have an unsual question. I am running Windows 2003 Server with Exchange.
My problem is that the server looses it's internet connection all the
time.
Sometimes it will run for 3 or 4 days and sometimes it will run for only a
few hours. In order to solve the problem I reboot the computer and
everything works fine again.

The modem does NOT drop it's connection and remains connected to the
internet all the time.

Exchange can not send or receive emails until the computer is rebooted. I
have checked that all services are still running. I also run a VPN and web
page and when this happens I am also unable to make VPN connections and
view
the web page.

I set up a second server and with a seperate internet connection and IP
address transferred the MX and URL records to point to this server and the
same problem occurred. Now the first server runs fine never looses it's
internet connection, it has been up for 3 weeks now.

I have tried 3 different modems and still the same problem.

The server that runs the Exchange and the Web page is the server that
looses
it's internet connection, as soon as I change the URL and MX records to
point to one of the servers I get this problem.

Does Anyone have any ideas what may be causing this problem.
