1. DNS or smarthost can both be used. Generally a smarthost is a device
or a sevrer that has got relaying capacity - it can be a IIS server,
Antivirus,Antispam server. Smarthost would be a better way of routing
mail to the outside. No harm in using DNS either as long as DNS is
working correctly.
2. SMTP connector should have an address space of "*" if you want mail
to any domain being sent out through this connector. If you specify an
address like yahoo.com then mails for yahoo.com will only be sent
through the connector and the other mails will not use this route.
NEVER mention your own domain name in the SMTP connector address space,
not unless you want to kill your server.
3. Smarthost can be a server, router or an AV/AS appliance- whatever IP
address has been configured for it should be used for the entry in the
connector.
4. You can use IMF to block spam mail. For relaying you can use the KB
below...
