If you are talking about the SMTP connection agreement, and you are using
Exchange 2000 or Exchnage 2003, you can use the masquarade domain name in the
advanced connection properties on the SMTP virtual server.This way your
server will initiate the SMTP connection with the public name.

If the actual e-mail messages are being stamped with your internal
addresses, you can modify that with recipient policies.
