Hi John,
You might be seeing two seperate issues here? If this worked at one point,
you may want to review the security you've put into place and undo it to see
if operations return to normal. Something else you might check out is this
article:
284934 XADM: An Event ID 1029 Message Is Logged After You Install Exchange
2000
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=284934
The 5.7.1 event you're seeing is usually a permissions related issue on the
SMTP virtual server. Ensure that the "access" tab is setup with the
following permissions:
AUTHENTICATION
Anonymous - required
Basic - only required if you have users using POP3/IMAP4
Integrated - required in most situations
CONNECTION
"all except the list below" - 99% of the time this will be just fine
ACCESS
only the list below - the other setting will make you an open relay and you
don't want that
allow all computers which successfully authenticate - this will be
necessesary in any org with more than one Exchange server.
Of course, this is just general advice and there is undoubtably a much more
precise answer I could give you if I knew more information such as the
layout of your Exchange org, etc...
