    Especially check the registry key for ports configuration.

         Alan,
         Sorry for the delayed response, I was away in Europe last week.
         
         I have the IIS virtual directories set up as you suggested which
    corresponds
         to the original directions I followed here
         http://support.microsoft.com/?id=833401 .
         
         I am still getting the same result.
