    I'm having a very similar problem, having just upgraded
    from the Sonicwall 230 to the 2040. Which firewall are
    you using? I haven't used the ping to test RPC
    connectivity, but prior to the firewall upgrade, my
    machine connected from my DMZ to the LAN's mail server
    with no problem.
