I think we need to find out whether your ISP is actually going to forward
for you. You may need to contact them to see what they have arranged for
you.
- If you are planning to have they relay (or forward) for you then there
is no need for NSLookup to succeed on your end, so long as you can connect
to the intended relay server. For this I would create a connector, instead
of the Virtual Server. NOTE: Change the Virtual Server to the defaults by
using Anonymous for outbound security.
- If you should be forwarding each domains intended messages directly
then you probably do not want to forward to the ISP.
You mentioned that Outlook and Outlook Express work. You would need to
provide the ISP servers (at least the SMTP server) and the authentication
data.
When testing with Outlook Express are you providing the ISP's SMTP server?
Does the external mailbox receive your test message?
I have included a link to an article that may be helpful to you:
The Remote Simple Mail Transfer Protocol Service Rejected AUTH Negotiation
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=329636
It would helpful to see the SMTP conversation between the Exchange server
and the ISP server. You can start with the SMTP protocol and later try
network monitor, or do both.

| Thank you Shawn,
|
| I have turned on all of the logging and it turns out that there is an
authentication problem. What shows up in the application log is:
|
| Message delivery to the remote domain 'unb.ca' failed. The error message
is 'The remote SMTP service rejected AUTH negotiation.
| '. The SMTP verb which caused the error is 'AUTH'. The response from the
remote server is '250-mailserv3.unb.ca Hello
CPE000c6e5762c9-CM014280011082.cpe.net.cable.rogers.com [65.49.24.168], '.
|
| Now, I can't figure out how to resolve this. I have tried setting up a
connector, to no avail. I am using the same username and password in
exchange as I am using in outlook or outlook express. The u: and p: work.
|
| This is how I have it set up...
|
| Default SMTP Virtual Server Properties->Properties->Delivery
| Outbound Security->Basic authentication->username:XXXX password:XXXX
|
| There was no problem with this before.
|
| Any Suggestions?
