I have a similar situation, but I seems to be getting
delays on some domains. I have an external domain of
hockey.org (which we own) and we have an internal domain
of hockey.local . We have an E2k3 server forwarding to a
w2K SMTP server. I am a little confused about what DNS
pointers I need to both internal and external. I also
had to set both exchange and smtp to HELO instead of EHLO
so they woudl talk to eachother ( i have no idea why I
had to do this).
Internally I have an MX for hockey.org pointing to
mail.hockey.org which has an A record pointing to the
exchange server. Then I have an MX record in
hockey.local pointing also to mail.hockey.org.
Externally I have an MX record poitning to
mail.hockey.org and an A record for mail.hockey.org to
192.168.1.1 (external of firebox).
Just recently (today) I tried creating an external for
mail2.hockey.org pointing to 192.168.1.1.
I have also changed the FQDN for the exchange server to
mail.hockey.org and for the smtp server
mail2.hockey.org. I have checked the headers on my mail
and I show nothing of the .local internal domain anymore.
Does this sound correct? Better way? Any ideas why I
have to set the SMTP to use HELO instead of EHLO?
Thanks
John
