It's a performance issue. If Entrust works like Symantec, it will not allow
an attachment to be accessed unless it has been scanned. Outlook tries to
access an attachment that hasn't been scanned, so Entust blocks the access
until it can be scanned. The scanning takes more than five seconds, so the
dialog pops up.
Background scanning should scan all attachments so that an end user can
never attempt to access an unscanned attachment, eliminating the delay. With
Symantec, we had to increase the number of threads from 3 to 6 as we have
substantially more users than you. Background scanning does impact
performance, but perhaps that evil is preferable to the dialog box evil.
