Hi BK,

There are a couple things on the connector that may be causing your issue.
I will list them and what I think needs to be corrected:

1) "following smart hosts [ip of external dns]"

Is the DNS server set up to accept mail and then forward it on to other
servers in the Internet? The Smarthost option is not for the server that
you want Exchange to query for DNS, but to actually drop all the mail on to
then be forwarded on. You will want to use the option of DNS not Smarthost
if your server can query external DNS properly.

If this does not make sense, just let me know.

2) "Address space six ip address entries for various non Microsoft "

By doing this, you are telling the SMTP connector to only send mail to these
6 specific addresses. Since the scope is limited to those addresses,
Exchange 2003 will send all other internet mail to the 5.5 server as it sees
that route to the internet. Ideally if you want all mail to leave this
server for the internet, you would specify an address space of * with a
cost of 1. It will look like this in the columns.:

SMTP * 1

when you set this, you will also want to uncheck the option "Allow messages
to be relayed to these domains". If you leave this checked with the * as
the address space, you will be open for relay. Exchange does not need to
have that option checked for your internal users to send mail to the
internet via this connector.

After changing the above settings, restart SMTP and attempt to send mail and
track it again. Where does it go?

If you have any questions on the above settings, just let me know.

Best Regards,
