On startup, Outlook will identify if it is running on a fast or slow
network and use either TCP/IP or HTTP(s).
If Outlook constantly prompts for a logon prompt, check the Outlook 2003
options within the Connection > Exchange Proxy Settings to verify you have
the following:
Clear - 'On fast networks, connect using HTTP first, then connect using
TCP/IP'
Check - 'On slow networks, connect using HTTP first, then connect using
TCP/IP'
When Outlook attempts to connect using HTTP, it will authenticate using
basic and there is no option to save the credentials. When connecting via
TCP/IP it will utilise normal RPC calls and authenticate using NTLM,
bypassing your RPC Proxy and connecting directly to the Exchange server.
You can verify the type of connection used by running Outlook with the
/rpcdiag switch.
