Hi all,
I've recently commissioned a new Exchange 2003 server in our company,
and configured RCP over HTTP; however, there is one thing that annoys
me...
When you connect from Outlook (about 99% of our users are external to
this server, so are using RCP over HTTP), you get prompted to enter
your login credentials - from what I can understand, this is details
for the Front End Server which can not be saved...
The question I have - why not? Why not allow saving of this password -
as it is highly annoying to be prompted (especially if you have users
who get confused easily!).
I have tried pretty much all of the "work arounds" available on the
internet to avoid this prompt, but they all seem to basically suggest
using NTLM or Integrated Auth - which will only work if the client is
logged on with the same credentials as required for the Exchange system
(many of which are not).
Any suggestions on how to work around this properly? Is this password
prompt only for accessing the RPC directory (if so, would it be
possible to switch to IP based access control?)?
Thanks in advance,
Andy Neillans
Ask yourself (or your users) this:
Would you have them logon to their Internet Banking automatically.
Would you have them access a secure website from an untrusted location
(which is exactly what you're talking about) without at least the
password. Sure, the user id is cached but never the password.
