Re: Anti-Spam for Exchange 2000 Server

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

Peter,

Thanks for your reply!

What's the number of users ? Around 80
Do you want it to be installed on the Exchange server itself or at the
Gateway (DMZ) As you said, it's better to install it at the gateway.
Are you planning other antivirus products as well (meaning, only antispam
or also antivirus,...) We have TrendMicro ScanMail for Exchange 2000
* What's your budget :) from $1000 to $1500

I found Mail Essential more user friendly. Are there any known problems for TrendMicro or GFI?

Hi,

I'm a Belgian reseller of both products, so let me share my ideas on these
softwares.

They both are antispam products, doing their job very well. No distinction
there between both products.

I mainly install GFI ME at smaller organisations, as the products is
user-friendly and intuitive to learn. Even a basic "IT person" at the
customer's site can manage this software.
When installing GFI ME, it offers you some other nice features like
disclaimer, basic archiving,...

If possible, configure GFI at gateway level, not on the Exchange box
itself...

TrendMicro on the other hand is a robust, professional software, with an
install base at the larger companies. If needed, a full suite of TrendMicro
products can be installed (ranging from gateway scanning, mailserver,
fileserver,... up to client scanning with OfficeScan.

So, if I were your IT partner, I'd ask you the following questions to fund
my ideas:

* What's the number of users ?
* What's the estimate of messages in and out ?
* Do you want it to be installed on the Exchange server itself or at the
Gateway (DMZ)
* Are you planning other antivirus products as well (meaning, only antispam
or also antivirus,...)
* What's your budget :)

Feel free to post your remarks or questions back here.

Kind regards,

Peter

We are running Exchange 2000 Enterprise Server. We want to setup the
anti-spam protection at server level. We are looking at GFI Mail
Essentials and Trendmicro Anti-Spam Server.

Does anyone has experience on these Anti-Spam Server or other applications
of same purpose?

Thanks in advance1

Rebecca
