OK Rich, thanks a bunch.

Even though CA/XOSoft say they have no idea, I'm becoming more inclined to
believe the user was created by their product (which runs as a service).
When I deleted the store from the replica, I got the "user deleted" alert,
and when the stores finally came online again, I got the "user created"
alerts. That's just too coincidental.

I still can't find those 'DOMAIN\FABDBE97-5FAA-4B9B-7' users in my AD
though, even on the DC where the alerts say they were created. They must be
hidden or something.

Are you using ADUC? Have you checked "View | Advanced Features"? The
use may be in the MESO OU or some other container that's visible only
when "Advanced Features" is enabled.

As an alternative, using LDP.exe can help find those hidden-away
places in the AD. :-)
