You are not required to install the Edge Role so if you are satisified with Syamtec as your Gateway device for Antispam/Antivirus protection then feel free to leave it in place. I will say when your support contract for Symantec expires I would research other vendors such as Forefront, Postini, Spam Soap, etc. to see if they might provide better results. Again, this is entirely up to you but I would at least trial them if you are interested.

Hi all,
We are going to move into Exchange 2007 envir. from exchange 2003 envir.
Currently, we use Symantec mail security for SMTP for our mail protection at
the gateway level. We are quite happy with that and also it's free with our
support. Should I replace Symantec mail security for SMTP with Edge
transport server? Also, we have Symantec mail security for exchange on the
exchange servers too. Should I use the forefront security instead?
Thank you!
