This appears to be by design part of the Office Protocol Discovery

Hi

When clients try to open attachments in OWA 2003, a second log in box
appears.  The user can cancel this or re-enter their credentials,
either way the attachment opens.

The front end server is set to basic auth with the backend set to
basic and windows integrated.  The clients PCs are running XP SP2 with
Office 2003 and IE7.

Any one got any ideas why this is happening?

Thanks
T

Have a look at your IIS log file, and see which request is generating a 401
(i.e. Unauthorised) response.  It may be that your bin folder in IIS (which
is where the Redir.asp file that handles attachments is located) no longer
has Anonymous Access enabled.

Lee.

Thanks for that Lee.  I Checked the log file i get the following when
trying to open the attachment:

2009-01-20 14:59:46 172.31.24.252 OPTIONS /exchange/info.stmaryrcni/
Inbox/test1[Scanned].EML/1_Spam+Tastes+80.docx/

+Office+Protocol+Discovery 401

I've looked into the Microsoft+Office+Protocol+Discovery but got
nowhere.

I tried adding the anaonymous logon user to the bin directory but
didn't help unfortunately.  Did i understand you correctly there?

Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated....- Hide quoted text -
