i used to be an exchange admin back when it was exchange 4.0. even got
certified on it!!!
back then data integrity was a real issue, tried once to do
incremental backups to save space and lost it all because it wouldnt
play the logs. sent the tape to microsoft-same result.
had to restore from last full backup over 6 months old.
this exchage 2000 and later seems to be more reliable than it was
then.
after i get this one back as best i can, ill definately move it all to
a new store though.
right now, its doing a eseutil /d after doing a sucessfull estutil /p
well see.

Once upon a time, in a previous life, I was a Microsoft Rapid Response

after a while. There were many times I would go on site and repair a
database as best possible, and it would still only stay mounted for an hour
or so at a time. That's why I would never trust a repaired database. If
you get it to mount, start moving mailboxes to a fresh clean one. You may
have to repeat the process several times until you get all the mail moved..
In the end, you dismount and delete the old damaged database. Now that you
have a fresh clean database populated with all the mail, the first thing you
do is take a backup and verify it. If you want to go the extra mile and
earn brownie points, do a test restore to an RSG after the backup and verify
completes...

I used some data recovery software to copy the mdbdata files to
another harddrive. the sizes are consistent with the originals. my
plan is to now use eseutil and work on the priv1.edb file. im starting
with the regular /D , then , if that doesnt work, ill goto /P. then
ill see what's missing and make a decision on how to proceed, given
that the store dismounts several times during the day i doubt that
moving mailboxes anywhere is going to do any good.
anyway, it looks like the harddrive will have to be replaced as there
are bad sectors on it. after i get the harddrive replaced, ill
contiplate what to do.
thanx for your advice

in your situation, that is sure to result in lost data...you cannot move

We have to teach you to trust again. Close your eyes and fall

Can you do a move mailbox?
If the store is horked, you would probably be better off creating a
new
store and moving mailboxes.

looked in the event log and determined that, for some time, that
our
backup of exchange server 2000 may not be 100%, "Portions of the
database may not be restored"
Guess , first of all , im dissapointed that there were no other
alerts
that there was anything wrong with the backups. just the event
logs.
Anyway, the problem now is that we cant copy the priv1.edb file to
another location because of CRC errors. Wondering how i can get the
priv1.edb file to another disk so that i can run eseutil /p on it.
