Re: How to setup a second Exchange server with data replication (as a backup server)

- Exchange 2003 does not offer any native capability to replicate data, with our without clustering.
- The High Availability model is based on MSCS (Clustering Svc), which stores Exchange data on shared storage (no replication).
- You would have to look at partner solutions for replication

- Exchange 2007 offers more HA options:
1) Local Continuous Replication (LCR): replicate Storage Groups to different volume on same server
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb125195(EXCHG.80).aspx
2) Cluseter Continuous Replication (CCR): replicate Storage Groups to passive cluster node, no shared storage requirement, automated failovers to passive node
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb124521(EXCHG.80).aspx
3) Standby Continuous Replication (SCR): replicate Storage Groups from one Exchange server - the SCR source - to one or more Exchange servers - known as SCR targets. Works with standalone and/or clustered source and target servers.
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb676502(EXCHG.80).aspx
4) Single Copy Cluster (SCC): Similar to clustering implementations in Exchange 2003/2000 with some improvements, requires shared storage, scales up to 8 nodes (max 7 active, 1 passive).

Hi,

we currently have an Exchange server 2003. We want to have a second
Exchange server on another location in case that the first one become
unavailable/broken/dead...

In fact, I would like to:

1- Have a replication of the server one on the server two almost in
real time (no email or data lost! (backup!))
2- Then if the server one become unavailable, I would have the
possibility to start the server two to become the new running server.

Is this possible? Without clustering? To have an easy recovery
solution for our Exchange 2003 server?

Thx,
Alex
