I go into Start-All Programs-Microsoft Exchange-System Manager
Under Administrative Group - First Administrative Group - Servers - Batman
(SBS2003 server) - First Storage Group - Archive Storage (Public Folder) -
Right Click and select delete, I get the message that "You cannot delete this
public folder store because it contains folder replicas. To avoid data loss,
right click the public folder store and use Move All Replicas to move the
replicas to a different server. It may take several hours until the content
is replicated to the new server and the local replicas are removed."
Now this is hooked to Administrative Groups - First Administrative Group -
Folders - Public Archive of which I cannot remove the link, it bascially
tells me to delete the Store.
I couldn't ever get Outlook to see the folder, so there is nothing there to
save. The ultimate goal was to move e-mails from our public folder of
projects that were complete so that we wouldn't continue to back them up when
nothing was changing.
From looking around the web, I need to pick up a book on Sharepoint tounderstand how that works, unless I missed some setting in outlook that
enables multiple public folders to be seen in outlook.
Hope this helps.

Well, I created the store in order to try out and see if stuff we could
archive off, and maybe backup less often, but still search for. After
finding out Outlook only sees one public folder, I tried to remove it, and
ran into this.
So yes, I was tring to delete it, but it won't let me without sending it
to
another location, which I don't need it to.

Public Folder.

please clarify...what is the "archive store"? A mailbox store? a
public
folder store?

well, To Susan and Chris, I have a follow up question. Some time
ago I
was
toying with the idea of an archive store until I found out Outlook
can't
see
anything but the mailbox and public folder. But when I try to
remove
it,
it
comes up it stating it contains folder replicas. Well, I don't have
another
server to move it to. I'm assuming this is why none of the
transaction
logs
have been flushed because I was not backing the "Archive Store" up.
Any
suggestions on how to get rid of this Storage Group? It is
connected
to a
public archive folder, and it tells me I need to delete the storage
before
removing the folder. Good game of Tennis if you ask me. Any help
on
this
is
appreciated.

David,
This method is fine as long as you are OK with the recovery
capabilities
of
this solution. In terms of your backups and SBS, there are only
the
Priv
IS
and Pub IS for Exchange. How big is your priv db? Have you
tweaked
your
deleted item retention policies? (as this keeps deleted items for a
specified
period of time)

I have a question about NTBackup and Exchange in SBS2003. I used
to
backup
the Microsoft Information Store and System State in one backup
(Exchange on
X, Winnt on C). As of last week, I could no longer fit them on
one
tape, so
I moved the System State to Monday, Mailbox on Tuesday, and
Public
on
Wednesday. I've checked the logs and everything appears ok, but
was
wondering if I am missing something by backup things up this way.
(I
have a
full system backup going to USB Drive Every night) Is there some
database in
Exchange I'm missing by not selecting First Storage Group. Right
now I
just
selected MailBox Store and Public Store seperately. Can anyone
tell
me
any
caveots with this approach?
